The challenge
A finished manuscript for a fantasy novel with a cover which did not reveal the genre of the book. Mock-ups from other sources were looking too generic, and the writer was afraid that the book would lose to more attractive competition.
What we did
We went through the best covers within the sub-genre and came up with something that incorporated all the right genre signals – typography, contrast, atmosphere – while still being fresh. The result was an edgy cinematic cover that works great when viewed as a thumbnail on a webpage and stands on its own as a print paperback.
